Article 226—Writ—Public Interest Litigation—Disclosure of identity of victim of gang-rape by media houses—Similar issue regarding compensation to the victims and criminal action under Section 228-A of IPC is pending before the High Court of Telangana in a batch of petitions in Criminal Writ Petition—Since a similar issue is pending before the Telangana High Court, this Court does not find it appropriate to initiate proceedings against media houses and reported individuals or to direct the investigating authorities to take cognizance of the offence. Section 228A—Disclosure of identity of victim of certain offences—Apex Court issued directions in in Nipun Saxena v. Union of India, (2019) 2 SCC 703 to ensure that victims of sexual abuse should be protected so that they are not subjected to unfortunate ridicule, social ostracisation and harassment—Even though the decision in (2019) 2 SCC 703 was rendered by the Apex Court in 2018, the directions contained in paragraphs 50.7 and 50.9 have yet not been complied with—GNCTD directed to act under Section 228A(3) of IPC and lay down the criteria as directed by the Apex Court—State is also directed to set-up one-stop centres in every District in compliance of the judgment of the Apex Court in Nivedita Jha v. State of Bihar, 2018 SCC OnLine SC 1616.
